Hello Kitty

The problem with Mogwai is that they are prone to leave you grinning in clichés: glacial splendour, brooding static storms, eyes of hurricanes, and assorted other meteorological phenomena; as well as the inevitable sonic cathedrals...

When - as in the case of Mogwai, a largely instrumental Glaswegian five-piece - there are few words, just sinuous guitar lines erupting into ear-splitting volume, the risk of ending up in Pseud's Corner, waffling on about cathedrals of sound, is high.
